Defining Blacks

"A real African-Americans"

According to Webster, an African-American is an American of African and especially of black African descent. However, I find it incredibly fascinating how the majority of people today, including blacks, the perception of what it means to the development of a "real" African American based on personal interests, language services and education, religion, education, etc. .

During my journey towards success I have observed the interactions of blacks among blacksand I must say that in some cases, we would treat each other worse than the stereotypical "white-man". We often hear complaints of mistreatment of our people's voice from other ethnic groups by the simple phrase: "Because I am black." Well, we as African-Americans, who often treat each other with the same can ignore, "Because we are black".

For example, this year I went to a restaurant to take a late lunch, in order, and as soon as I entered, Inoticed I was the only customer. What else noticed was the rap music with explicit lyrics that the game was too loud. Behind the counter of the employees (Afro-American swing) and swing, was about the music and looked at me like, "Wuzz up, what is your order". So I think: "Okay, maybe you should contact the music first, so you can listen to my order". Of course, this has not happened, I was politely trying, at my requestnot pay much attention to my discomfort.

Now do not get me wrong, I can appreciate some rap, but in the right environment and I thought to be this particular restaurant is a place of business. Nevertheless, the people (African-American) incidents and comes in fixing my food, when a young female Caucasian work dressed in the economy and was obviously in a hurry. Before I blink my eyes, the worker is in the middle of preparing my life, goes to the rearof the restaurant and turn the volume on the radio. If the employee gives them the Caucasian ask in a professional manner, "how can I help you?" Now you can imagine, my facial expression. Yes, confused. Of course, I started the situation by an innocent comparison between Caucasian women and analyze myself. We would have no more than 5 years age difference, she was dressed nice, but I even had a suit. I could not understand why was this other lady worthymore respect, in a place of business, as I was.

Certainly some will say that the black employees better able to obtain a "sista", as I, the urban music playing as loud as you want. However, I thought the environment extremely unprofessional when I came in and knew the employees that it is inappropriate, otherwise they would not have their opinions changed dramatically over the entrance of the Caucasian lady. The only solution I came up with "because Iblack "related, that the workers accept my perception of music and their behavior to be, because our skin tones were similar. Wrong. Not even from my own ethnic group, I do not wish to be judged because of the color.

When will we come to a place in our own community, where and who we are as an individual take precedence only black? We are angry so quickly when the other races judge us, but we continue to pass a verdict on each other for years. I believe firmlySupport of our African American communities, but it's not fair to people with black skin who want to move to criticize from the rural, urban ghettos, or in improving their personal future. Some of us have become so close-minded that when we see a young African American family tries to children in what is safer than one that is "to increase suburban" environment, then here comes the second famous phrase, " they are trying to be white. " Perhaps these people are simply trying to offer a betterLife for their children.
Nor why I will be considered "trying to be white" because I do not speak Ebonics or because my vocabulary is lacking certain dialect, and apparently the common dialogue, what does often talk as 'have'.

Why can not we just call it proper English? In addition, some African Americans are truly say that our people are not worthy to speak as if she had some form of training? Just because someone is wrong, English is usednot become a "black thing", it is an individual thing. Our ancestors worked hard for us to take advantage of education and I happen to have a degree in Mass Communications, so I know how to adjust my surroundings. That does not mean I'm trying to be black or white, but only free to be myself. For African-Americans who have paved the way, but went even further, I represent them. Take it into consideration that for some of us who are hungry for knowledge and prosperity, notattempt to "know". It is simply trying to highlight the success that our ancestors dreamed of reaching African American achievement from us one day. Thus, blacks should not say "do not forget to have" if they forget the reasons so easy to die, our great, great grandparents, to do what she has to rise above the color of our skin.
